Calle Larios and Plaza de La Constitución are the main street and square in the historic center of Malaga. And for this reason, the comprehensive rehabilitation project promoted by the City Council recovers not only its spatial role, but also its representative importance, combining tradition and modernity to tie together the past and the times to come.
Historic centers are more fragile when facing a heavy traffic, for which they were not conceived. For this reason, pedestrian use is prioritized, which favors urban, social and economic revitalization. The Project recovers for Calle Larios its original transparency, serenity or elegance. And in the Plaza de la Constitución, it recovers its vitality as a place for meetings and social activities.
The great growth of Malaga in the last half century required a new “Plaza Mayor” with a larger scale. The renovation of Calle Larios and Plaza de la Constitución was the first great step in the transformation of its entire Historic Center, which since then has assumed the status of a new relationship space in the City. All these have meant a new way of living and conceiving the historic center of the capital of the Costa del Sol; now friendlier and with a higher quality of life for its citizens and visitors.
